the world doesn't necessarily need more yoga teachers. but the world could certainly benefit from a few more excellent yoga teachers.
the sticky reality is this: for better or worse or both, yoga has become a market. and the market has become saturated. with 200-hour teacher trainings as the life raft keeping many struggling yoga studios afloat, training courses are ubiquitous, and they vary wildly in quality and structure.
those of us who have been through one (or two or three...) understand that there is just no way to truly master the art of the practice, let alone the skill set required to teach, in a few short weeks or months. however, that information hasn't yet reached our student base. yoga teachers are so often seen as part guru, part physical therapist, part nutritionist, part life coach...all on the shaky and uneven foundations of a very limited education.
and too often, early in our teaching journey, we are too ashamed to admit what we don't know. so we parrot crumbs of information imparted from our teachers, but without an anchor in context, nuance, or true experiential understanding. so unknowingly we perpetuate the same cycle that has burned us. that of misinformed but well-intended teachers repeating information from their teachers and calling it a lineage, leaving the burden of any error or injury to fall heavily on the student.
we end up feeling burnt out, "lazy," and overwhelmed by all of the components tugging at us. maybe we even stop making time to practice. to further buffer ourselves from our own ignorance, we exert our efforts in the process of "building a following." the time that was once spent on the mat is now spent on instagram. and while it is essential to own your practice and to share your teachings with your community, it is not a substitute for a sincere love of the practice or for genuine excellence in your teaching.
if that resonates with you, i invite you to bravely step into the liberating space of admitting what you don't know and asking for help. but this time, instead of enrolling in another group training covering similar surface-level concepts, why not work one on one with someone who has lived this practice and walked this career path for the past decade? someone who is here to be fully of service to you and your specific circumstance.
come home to the practice and receive it as it was designed: individually and medicinally. commit to breaking the cycle that prioritizes dogma over authenticity, or followers over teachings, and come home to your deepest truth. be excellent.
choose your own adventure.
hustle. and flow. offers 5 modules which can be completed between 8 and 12 weeks. we will focus more heavily on the modules that resonate with you, and in certain cases, eliminate an entire module all together in favor of spending more time working with another.
module 1 excellence in practice come back to your foundations and uncover your highest why as a practitioner and as a teacher. learn how to show up to the parts of your practice that you resist, clear limiting beliefs, and design a practice that exists as a reflection of who you are. learn how to live a yogic life while being guided by your own inner compass.
module 2 driving the vehicle of functional anatomy yoga anatomy is typically taught by dividing the body into parts, naming each part, and explaining how they move. i liken it to this: you don't need to know all the parts of your car in order to drive. return to the topics of anatomy and physiology from a functional and applicable perspective to gain bodily confidence and mastery.
module 3 the architecture of flow intelligently and creatively sequence flows. by respecting the body and using the shapes as medicines, we invite a more nourishing and playful experience. open yourself to the unique body philosophy that already lives in you. this applies to individual flows as well as sequencing for workshops and retreats.
module 4 adding poetry to your motion an awareness, both new and old, is dawning in the yoga community. one that favors verbal cues over physical adjustments. as our culture begins to remember the importance of listening, both to ourselves and to our teachers, it is imperative that asana facilitators are able to cue their way through their flows articulately, safely, and effectively.
module 5 zen and the art of hustle while later in your journey, you will receive students based on your excellent reputation, the initial momentum is from stepping into vulnerability and sharing what you have to offer. we call on conscious entrepreneurship to participate in this industry with integrity and get down to brass tacks: cancellation policies, branding, and social(ly responsible) media.

a bit about my journey
i have shared more than a third of my life with this practice (and no, i'm not in my 20s anymore). i have completed 3 teacher trainings and assisted on a number of others. i have owned a studio, managed a studio, taught at other studios, and even opened up a space in my own living room! i've shared what has become this very real and medicinal practice to people across a dozen countries and 4 continents through my classes, retreats, and workshops. and when i arrived to saigon all those years ago, there was practically no such thing as one on one yoga (which is the bulk of what i was offering). let alone in english. let alone anywhere near my price point. by the time i left, i had more than enough clients to live well and to continue investing in my education and my passions.
there is no magic spell that fills my classes or runs my retreats. it is very simple. i strive for integrity. i am willing to admit what i don't know, and i am dedicated to furthering my own knowledge. i am committed to yoga as both medicine and as a life science. a process where we guess. we try. we observe. we learn. and we make new guesses. all in the highest hope of our own healing and liberation. where we become our own "guru." (the sanskrit word means: darkness to light.) so we walk the path from the darkness of ignorance to the light of our own consciousness. and i am here to walk right by your side.
i share nothing more or less than the practice that renews my spirit and humbles me on a regular basis. from my own personal experience, my relationship to asana has invited miraculous healing: sublimating severe anxiety and depression, rebuilding the arches in my feet, realigning a herniated spine, giving me the tools to weather the storm of generations of family trauma, eliminating autoimmune diseases from my life, and rewiring destructive patterns within myself and my relationships. so i do believe in miracles. i also believe in hard work and passionate play. and i am here for you to lay the foundations for a life that you love with a practice that you feel on fire to share with others.
